1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
This Karmann Ghia is a pleasure to cruise around in.
It went through restoration before recently, when it got a nice paint job, new floor pans, and a bunch of other new stuff.
Judging from the condition of wear components, the odometer reading is believed to be correct.
There's a small rust hole is in the spare tire area on the driver’s side. There is a bit of surface rust showing itself on the driver’s rocker. There is also some body filler in the back of the car.
The new engine has J-tubes so the heater isn’t hooked up. All the warning lights work, as do the turn signals, hazards, headlights/high beams, tail lights, brake lights, and horns. The parking brake works, and the car stops great.
These are some of the new things:
New horn relay (genuine VW part)
New front to rear brakeline
New shift rod bushing, and shift coupler (the car shifts like a dream)
The entire engine was just rebuilt. These are some of the highlights:
Brand new cylinder heads
Brand new pistons and cylinders
Pistons balanced to a hundredth of a gram
Cylinders carefully hand lapped into heads
Valves hand lapped into seats
Reconditioned German connecting rods – balanced
Reconditioned German crankshaft
Updated genuine VW oil relief plugs and gaskets
New oil relief pistons and springs
New fuel pump pedestal
New distributor and components
New spark plug wires
New spark plugs
New oil cooler
All new case hardware
New flywheel
New gland nut
New clutch disc and pressure plate (the good German ones)
It has a newer generator and carburetor (carburetor was just rebuilt anyway)
New carburetor jets for better performance
It has a newer sport muffler
Brand new J-tubes
New pulley and belt
New fuel lines
The case was align-bored, but didn’t even need to have the thrust cut.
All engine tin was media blasted and repainted
All engine tin was properly sealed during assembly for best cooling
It has a new Genuine VW oil pump / oil filter combo with a Bosch filter. This filter adapter is really a great part.
Brand new sump cover plate
The rebuilt engine has just over 300 miles.
The engine sounds and runs great. It was properly broken in, and has already had two oil changes and valve adjustments. It doesn’t leak a drop of oil.
Sorry, this one already went to a new home, but if you check our current inventory, I bet you'll find something else that you'll like.
  • Completely rebuilt engine
  • Runs and drives great
